HDR Architects teamed with English + Associates as their production architect for the design of a new City of Galveston fire station located at the airport in Galveston, Texas. The challenge was to work within the conceptual design and to implement a complete design strategy that maintained the original concept while bringing it into compliance with Texas Windstorm requirements. Specifically, our work included modification of the conceptual design to accommodate the client’s wind load goals as they developed, as well as full production of the construction documents. In our role as Architect of Record, we will be performing onsite Construction Administration, as well. We put our extensive experience in designing fire stations and meeting wind load requirements into use and met the rigorous requirements for Texas Windstorm: Seaward Construction classification, as well as providing a building that maintains the original design concept.
