Walter P. Moore Engineers teamed with English + Associates to redesign the Level One East Wing inpatient ward, following significant foundation repair at this wing of the UT HSC.  Initially, we were hired to replicate the existing East Wing inpatient ward with fresh finishes and updated colors.  Then, at project kickoff, English + Associates discovered the patient population was changing from adults to children.  We worked closely with the center’s healthcare providers to understand their goals, services and amenities that would best serve the new population of patients.  The centralization of the nurse’s station allows critical monitoring of all unit activities from a single location.  The finishes, colors and furnishings selected appeal to children while still offering the high-performance characteristics required in a demanding healthcare environment.
